I have set-up my new Windows mail account and can receive email messages.

However, I cannot send them.

This is the error message that appears:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account:
'mail.vancouver-personal-trainer.com', Server:
'mail.vancouver-personal-trainer.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Please let me know what I need to change inside the email account properties
in order to successfully send messages.

Thanks,

Rich.

I am trying to send pictures from my photo gallery and I am receiving a
error message that their is a error message that a connection to the server
has failed.

Since vancouver-personal-trainer.com is not an ISP or mail provider,
I can't verify whether it supports port 465. Have you been told that it does?
It is unusual for a vanity web hosted domain to support port 465.
Try port 587, and if that fails, port 25. Post any error messages.

Tanya, right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.

In the future, please don't hijack someone else's thread, start a mew thread.

Hey Gary,

Must admit... you're a big help, surprised if you actually don't work for
microsoft.

It doesn't seem to matter if it's outgoing port 25, 465 or 585 the email
just doesn't send. What else could be wrong?

How are you connecting to the internet, are you at home or at work etc?

Who is providing your internet connection when it fails to send, and has
this account ever worked?

Was your Outbox cleared before you tried to send again, using each of those
different Port numbers?

MS MVP's do not work for Microsoft.

I am connecting at home.

The account didn't work before when I was using Outlook Express.

I use Telus.

My outbox was cleared... not working...

Tools>accounts>select your account>properties>server tab.

Try changing the Outgoing Mail Server to: smtp.telus.net

Then on the Advanced tab ensure port 25 is selected and that none of the SSL
boxes are checked.

Please copy and paste any error messages back here.

I can't make a definitive diagnosis since you did not supply the error
messages obtained with port 587 and port 25. My best guess is that
mail.vancouver-personal-trainer.com doesn't support advanced ports
like 587 and 465, and that port 25 is being blocked by your ISP.
As a general rule, the owner of the port 25 SMTP server you are using
must be the same as the entity providing your Internet connection at that
moment. For more on this policy, see
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/Port_25_Blocking.aspx

If you only send from home, your best workaround is to substitute the
SMTP server belonging to your home ISP. This is a bit tricky, but if
you want to go that route, I can provide more details. I will need the
name of your ISP.

Here are the steps to take:

In Windows Mail go to Tools, Accounts, select your vancouver-personal-trainer
account, click Properties, Servers. Change the name of the outgoing (SMTP)
server to smtp.telus.net. Do not change the incoming server. Also, make
sure that the "My server requires authentication" option is *NOT* checked.
Click OK. Try sending.

If you get an error message, copy it and post it here.

It worked!

You are the best man!!
