My problem is I cannot secure my database I created on our Local Network
Server from other users. The database (backend and frontend) is placed on a
drive where my co-workers have access to it. All my co-workers who have
access to that drive can open it without a password prompt. I did a test and
see what it is I need to troubleshoot. I went on my co-worker’s computer and
log in with my username to see if it will restrict me. The database opens
without asking me for a login name and pwd. Then to see if it could be my
computer, I have my co-worker log in under her username on my computer and it
allowed her to open without asking for a login name and pwd. Therefore, the
security only works on my computer with my username. Can you explain why it
is like that? In addition, how do I fix this?

Here are the steps I did to secure my database, maybe this might explain why
it did not work.

The first step I did was setup workgroup administrator information, which is
myself. Next, I went into the User and Group Accounts under Security in
Tools to create a pwd for Admin. Then I created two addition Group Accounts
(ie. sales people and store manager) and a few new user/group account for my
co-workers and myself. Moreover, I remove the Admin user from the Admins
group. To make it more secure I set myself as the administrator with a pwd.
Then I run the User-level Security Wizard. I made sure everything was
selected in the All Objects tab. Click Next. Select only the two Group
Accounts (ie. sales people and store manager) I created. Click Next. Select
No, the Users group should not have any permission. Click Next until I get
to the end where it tells me to verify the name of the backup copy of the
unsecured database. I did, it is fine and I click finish. I save my
snapshot report. Then I went into User and Group permission to set the group
permission (only for the two I created). I test it out on my computer and it
works using one of the users I created. That person was restricted from the
things I did not give her permission. Finally, I went into Documenter under
Analyze in Tools to set the Form options to unchecking Properties and code.
In addition, I went into option under Tools in the Advanced tab to select
Shared, Edited record, open database using record-level locking so if someone
is editing a record in the shared database someone else will not be able to
make changes to that same record.

I hope you can help me with this.

I would greatly appreciate it.

Are you following a list of written instructions? I suspect not,
because if you were, you would not be asking the question you are
asking :)

Try the Access Security FAQ, often referenced in this newsgroup.
