Hi

I had this problem for 2 weeks - nearly broke my business!

right - here goes..... change outlook settings to PLAIN TEXT ONLY, no not include initial message in reply and see if it works - it has solved my problems for now!

Also make sure you unselect the option in options that says 'reply in same format as received'.

Good luck

Can I join this debate too. I am having the same problem as everyone else,
and like everybody it is extremely frustrating.

I am running Office 2003 on XP Pro. I followed the same troubleshooting
advice and it came up with a log

"*** Starting First Run (01-14-2006 14:47:51) ***
....HrPreSplashFirstRun called.
....HrPreLogFirstRun called.
....HrPostLogFirstRun called.
...... FCheckFirstRunStatus failed reading machine value "17019"!
....deleting WAB4/UseOutlook because we're using MAPI.
....writing UUID to HKCU.
....setting Primary Client to Outlook.
*** Ending First Run (01-14-2006 14:48:05) ***

As I am not computer literate - it means nothing to me. So if someone out
there can take me by the hand to a solution I would be very grateful.

I have also done everything else I can - including disabling add-ins - which
worked for about 2 weeks - but no longer. There seems to be a fundamental
problek here I feel.

Many thanks to anyone who has time to help.

Jeff,

I have been experiencing this same problem for the past 4-5 days. I have
mail accounts on three different servers. I continue to receive email from
all servers. I can not send email to any of the servers. Any attempt to
send email results in the same error message -

Task 'pop.interserv.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0F) : 'The
connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact
your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

where "pop.interserv.com" changes to which ever email account I am sending
the mail out on. I can send emails through the web based interface on each
of the mail servers.

I am using Outlook 2003. I have made no changes to any of the mail
settings. I have verified that each account is set to login for SMTP server,
If I check the mail settings, the test email message fails with the following
error on all mail accounts -

- Send test email message: The specified server was found, but there was
no response from the server. Please verify that the port and SSL nformation
is correct. To access the settings close this dialogue, and then click more
settings and click on the Advanced tab.

There have been no changes made to port or SSL information. When I try to
create a new account to replace these account that are not sending email, I
have the same problem of not being able to send email.

This situation is getting to be unmanageable. We need an answer from
Microsoft Outlook!

Only read this if you are using a mail box that is not provided by your
current ISP - eg if you have changed your internet supplier but still use a
mail-box from a previous ISP.

The reason you cannot send email but only recieve is due to needing remote
mail server authentication eg, instead of pop3.yourisp.com you SHOULD use
pop3r.yourisp.com (the r stands for remote) and should be setup by the ISP
hosting your email mail box - NOT the ISP providing your connection so dont
bug them :)
The same is for smtp, use smtpr

Secure socket layer SSL authentication should be ticked for both incoming
POP3 and Outgoing SMTP servers, by default Outlook 2003/2002 will set the
incoming to the correct port but you will need to change the SMTP outgoing
port to 465
Tools -> Email Accounts -> Chanage -> More Settings

There is usually a small charge for your mail box ISP to setup this remote
mailbox feature (about $2.50 NZ)

Any further questions contact us through www.rice.net.nz

Thank you

This may not work for everyone, but I found this to work. I had tried all the stuff posted in the previous posts but nothing worked. Then I remembered that Outlook has a limit on the size of the .pst file before it starts doing some funky stuff. If you have been using outlook for a long time, your file size can start to get up there. After about 4 years of use, I noticed mine was at 10gb's. I went ahead and AutoArchived my mailbox. It removed about 3gb's from my sent items folder, and now its working. Hopefully this is a permanent fix.

If this ends up not being a permanent fix, or its not the same issue eveyone is having, Microsoft needs to recognize that there is a bug in Outlook.

Nevermind. It didn't work. I am now having the issue again.

Microsoft needs to seriously come up with the solution to this. Or our ISP's are ****ing idiots.

Good luck everyone.

I also cannot send POP3 (Gmail) through my Outlook 2003. I have no problem
receiving mail. I also have the same issue with a POP3 account from my
school. However, I am able to send Yahoo POP3 mail with no problems. The
error message I get when Test Account Settings:

information is correct. To access these settings and close this dialog, then

Yesterday I tried to send emails and I got an error message. I could receive
but not send. I tried all the usual things several times: turned off the
computer, turned off my router and cable modem, checked all my connections,
started fresh. The problem persists. Is this a problem with Outlook?

I have this problem as well. All is OK installed but since last night I can't

I've go the SAME problem. My error number is 554, and ISP

deleted and re-added my accounts, and added updates.
Nothing worked (yet). Any ideas?

Simple - Tools>Email Accounts>View or change existing email
accounts>Next>"double-click" the account from list>More Settings>Outgoing
Server Tab>put check in "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires
authentication">OK>Finish

And then it works...

There is a known issue between Norton and Outlook, they are working on a
solution.. but so is Christmas coming.. I uninstalled Norton and put a free
virus protector on.. AVG and it is working great.. until then I would restore
back to the day that I could send emails..
