i have a hp pavilion 761n. xp home. but not the original
o/s. i needed to reload windows and didnt have the disk,
so i got 1 from a friend--dell xp home. but it worked out
perfect. i just had to reinstall some drivers. but then
about 2 weeks later i did a windows update and my computer
wouldn't load up. so i loaded it up in safe mode and did a
system restore and was able to load up to windows. but
computer was not performing right. so i tried to uninstall
the win updates and now my computer is wrecked. i turn it
on but just before it gets to my desktop very quickly a
blue screen will flash and the computer will reboot. safe
mode or and other options i could find would not get me
any farther. and hp is no help. please respond. if your
idea works, ill pay whatever.

It would be cheaper just to go to Sam's Club and buy a retail copy of XP
home.
Then you would have your own disk to experiment with.
The last time I was there, they were running about $69.00.

Good Luck
