hyperterminal operation

I am using hyperterminal to collect data from a pabx via a serial port and
store the data in a text file. Is there any way to

1. start hyperterminal as a service (independently of whether any user logs
on); and
2. make it capture text automatically once it is started?

This article may help. Though I doubt it would work because of the GUI. You
might want to look into using an MSComm control in a VB application EXE
which could be run as a service.

Thanks for the tip about the user defined service. Will try that out over the
weekend. Even if i cannot use it for hyper terminal i have another
application (a scanner application) for which it will come in useful.

As for automatically starting to capture text once the program, nothing
simpler than a VB program pl? I was hoping for a switch type of option built
in maybe?
