Lost serial ports when upgraded to XP

I have just recently upgraded a computer to windos XP (clean install) and I
now cannot communicate through the serial ports (com1, com3, and com4 on this
computer). I have tried to access these serial ports through hyperterminal
and I recieve no data, nor any error messages. Has anyone any idea where my
serial ports have gone?

Specifics - I am trying to capture streaming ASCII data from an instrument
using LabView software. I test the serial port through hyperterminal first.
None of the 3 serial ports recieve any data. The cable and the instrument
are OK, they work on other computers.

Most PCs only come with the standard COM 1 and COM 2. If you added serial
ports, you will need to install the XP version of the drivers in order to
get COM 3 and COM 4.

Thank you Yves. Let me clarify some more information. The Serial ports were
named COM 1,3,4 when the computer was running Windows 98SE. The numbers seem
to have remained the same through the clean install of XP. I have indeed
reloaded the drivers for all of the serial ports, but there still is no
capability to recieve data through the ports. Do you or anyone else have any
other suggestions?

I have found the bug - two other cards were interfering with the serial port
card. Those cards were a fiber optic port and gspb card. Once removed, the
serial ports were accessible, although their addresses from COM3 and COM4 to
COM5 and COM6.

Hope this is helpful.
