Hyperlinks,bookmarks&frames probs

AK

Hi all

I have an issue with FP2002 in which I am using the
default sharepoint site - customised - and I'm trying to
write a FAQ's/How to's guide using bookmarks.

My problem is this: Whenever I try to link a piece of text
to a bookmark further down the page, I select my text and
make it a hyperlink, then scroll further down the page
where I'd like the bookmark to be, the go to: "Insert |
Bookmark" and then go back to the hyperlink and set the
target as that bookmark (well I did it the other way
around otherwise it wouldn't work). It seems to work fine
in the dreaded preview mode, but when I check it in the
browser (IE5.5) it doesn't go anywhere, but the url
changes and adds "#mybookmark" to the address.

I've tried this before and got nowhere, but I've just read
somewhere that it may be to do with the target frame?
I think this must be right because if I set my hyperlink
(far lower on the page) to link to a bookmark anywhere on
the page, but the target frame to be "Whole Page" ('_top')
then it takes me to the top of the page.

Can any one shed light on what's happening here? Do I need
to make a new frame in the page or something?

Sorry for the huge text - thanks for looking though.

AK

Make sure the text you are bookmarking to is only one word.

bookmark will work, book mark will not work as a bookmark.

Also, create the bookmark, save the page and then link to the bookmark.

Thanks for the reply, but that doesn't work. I've tried
quite a few variations on that - saving all,
saving,refreshing,recalculting hyperlinks... all those
seem to do the same thing, nothing.
As I said, the URL changes to reflect the point that IE
thinks it's follwing the bookmark, but the screen stays in
the same place.

IE obviously thinks it's doing something, so is the fact
that it may be pointing in the wrong place- maybe a frame
or something - valid?

Thanks
AK

Sorry - I forgot to say that clearer - it's right down at
the bottom, so it's out of sight unless you scroll to it..

But if I try it the other way around - set the text at the
bottom of the page to link to a bookmark near the top then
I can tell it in the 'edit hyperlink' box to use 'Same
Frame' 'Whole Page''New window' or 'parent frame' or the
page default which is set to none. I'm sure I must be
doing it wrong just here but I can't see any other options.

thanks

Sorry again - it's not on n outside facing server, as it's
for an intranet.
I don't really want to paste the code up here as FP(should
be called bloat-page..)makes a huge amount of it.
Sorry to make myself difficult to help.

What is the size limit of a posting here? If I do past it
up, I'd not want to annoy anyone.

However some browsers / version have problem with spaces in folder, file and link names, that is why
it is recommended to never have spaces.

Thomas -

I understand. However, FP2002 creates the bookmark names automatically when the target is highlighted
and control-G is pressed, so I left them as is on my site. They work in IE 6, Navigator 4.7, Navigator
7.1, and Opera 7, so that's close enough for me! :)
