Hyperlink won't open the file

When I edit a hyperlink, it works fine if I'm requesting a file from my own
computer. However, I can't reach a file that is located on someone else
computer. I am the database administrator and need to be able to tell
people how to edit their hyperlink so that everyone can view the file, not
just them. Does the file have to be in a shared folder in order for this to
work?

Yes, put the files in a shared network folder so that the path is the same
for everyone (e.g. URL).
