Hyperlink substitution

Hello, I'm trying to attach a hyper link to a word in a .ppt presentation.
The hyper link points to a network directory on a shared server. When I run
slideshow the link works. But when I save the presentation to the shared
server over the network, powerpoint seems to replace some subdirectory names
with a series of slashes and periods e.g. "../../../../../../../" so the
link no longer functions. Why is this? How can I stop it doing this?

Thanks for any advice.

Choose File, Document Properties and see if there's a Hyperlink Base set for
the presentation. If so, delete it, save and see if that helps.

Hi,

And on that note, if Mr Rindsberg is up out of bed, it's good night from the
Aussie. Nighty-night, PowerPoint world ;-)

Wake up, you! I was only up 'cause a neighbor talked me into manning the phone
bank at our local public radio station (where she works).

6:30am is not a viable part of my lifestyle.

hi Steve,

I don't see any reference to a Hyperlink base set in any tab of the
properties menu. Any other idea why my hyperlinks are being overwritten when
I save the ppt to a shared server?

Thanks.

hi Steve,

I don't see any reference to a Hyperlink base set in any tab of the
properties menu.

Just to be sure, choose File, Properties, click the Summary tab. Hyperlink base is
near the bottom of the dialog box.

I save the ppt to a shared server?

Not sure, but another question for you:

After you've copied the PPT to the server, are you opening it from another computer
and expecting the links to work? It's not likely that they will, at least from any
computer other than your own.

One thing that might help sort this out is for you to download and install our free
FixLinks demo (http://www.pptools.com/fixlinks/) and use it to run a report on the
links before saving to the server and again after.

Post the reports here (edit out anything proprietary that you don't want to share)
and we can have a look.
