"Hyperlink" showing in all email messages

All of a sudden, the word "hyperlink" is showing up in all my email
messages, whether I create new, or forward a message. I have OUtlook 2003,
Windows XP, and OUtlook is using Word as my email editor

Open Word, go to the Tools menu > Options command and check if the option to
show Field Codes is selected.

show Field Codes is not checked. Even when I forward an email that has
hyperlinks in it, everything gets converted so all the links are displayed
instead of the orginal layout. This only happens if I use Word as my email
editor, if I turn that off, everything is ok. I have always used word as my
editor, this just started recently

No, that didn't work. I keep thinking it must be a setting in Word, but I
haven't a clue what it could be!

Press Alt+F9. Does that toggle them off and on?

Hello - I may have discovered the reason for this as I was experimenting with
code to automagically save an attachment and substitute a hyperlink.

I was prepending a "Files Saved:" message to the Body, I found that any RTF
formatted mails got all their "hyperlinks" changed to HYPERLINK text.

If the editor is wordmail I was using Word's Hyperlink.Add to plug in the
link.

While reading some other related topics I discovered that referencing the
Body gave a simple text string. So I removed the "prepending" of "File
Saved:" to the Body and just Added the link.

Magic! The "reformatting" to HYPERLINK .... has now gone away (for me).

I hope that this helps others - I have found the material here so useful, it
would be nice to think my offering is also useful.

You are aware, aren't you, that applications that do this are already
available?

I had experimented with "Outlook Attachment Sniffer", but it places files
based on the folder of the message - I normally do this from the inbox before
filing the email.

During my experiments, I found several snippets of code - many offered by
Sue Mosher. Yet none were quite the same as I was intending. I wanted the
ability to select the folder into which the attachments should be placed, so
I added a shell call to BrowseForFolder.

I will look around to investigate more thoroughly now that you point it out.
In the meantime, I learned some things that I found interesting. I am not in
a development role anymore as CoBOL-80 is still new to me :) so it was more
like a hobby.

If you have particular favourites Brian, do pass on some links.

thanks
Rick
