Hung up in hibernation

I have an E machine T6216 , AMD Athlon 64 Processor , 3200 + , 2.01 Ghts ,
384 MB RAM , Windows XP Home edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2 plus all
upgrades. My latest upgrades were on the 15th.

This morning I was working on some pictures, transferring them from my hard
drive to a Maxtor portable hard drive when all of a sudden everything went
from the screen except the picture that I have as a background for the
desktop. All my icons from the desktop are gone. Nothing happens when I use
cont/alt/del.
When I turn it off at the on/off switch it says hibernating and then goes
off again.
I left it off for 1/2 hour and when I pushed the start button again it
comes back up to the picture, no icons, and still frozen.

Aynone have any ideas ??

After bootup, press Ctrl-Alt-Delete TWICE to call up the Task Manager. The
Shutdown menu has a "Restart" item

Thank you Mark, that worked like a charm. Whatever caused it to go down like
that? Is there anything I should do to be sure it won't happen again?

You probably moved a hidden file when copying (desktop.ini) It was recreated
when you restarted.
