Standby/hibernate problem

Last November I built a new desktop compuer, using a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
motherboard with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and two matched 1 GB DDR2
memory sticks. I set this comptuer up with MS Windows XP Pro, and updated it
to SP2 plus all the suggested on-line updates.

This computer worked very well until about 2 weeks ago. The Western Digital
500GB SATA hard drive failed and I had to install a new one. I replaced the
failed hard drive with an exaxt same make/model and re-installed my OS and
client software. But, there is now a problem.

Prior to this hard drive failure the System standby and System hibernate
functions worked as they should, but after installing the replacement hard
drive and re-installing all my software I can not get the comptuer to go
into either Standby or Hibernate mode. When I open Control Panel > Power
Options I get the ordinary window, but the bottom two choices just aren't
there. I'm talking about System standy and System hibernate time selection
slots.

The other two choices, Turn off computer and Turn off hard disks are there
as they have always been before but there is nothing below the divider line
under these two choices, on this screen.

I have not changed any hardware other than the replacement hard drive. I am
running the exact same software, but may have inadvertently clicked on some
wrong choice, somewhere, while setting things up. I have installed MS Office
2007, Adobe Photo Shop, and a few other minor client software packages, but
nothing that should be incompatible with Windows XP Pro. All the client
software that I now have installed worked well in the previous setup, before
the hard drive failure.

Any suggestions as to what I should examine or how I might rectify this
problem.

Thanks, Gordon

Did you install the latest driver for your video adapter? How about the drivers
for you motherboard's chipset?

Good luck

Thanks, Nepatsfan, that worked. I have an e-GeForce 7600 DS graphics card,
and apparently something went wrong when I set up the drivers for it after
the hard drive failure/re-install. I went through the process of
re-installing the drivers and now my Standby and Hibernate funcitons are
working right. Thanks again. I really appreciate your help. Gordon
