Hibernate Problem

After a new hard drive installation and clean install of xp home, hibernate
mode I cannot make work. When I press the shift key at the "turn off
computer" box, the icon does not change from stand by to hibernate. How can
I restore hibernate mode?

Is hibernate enabled in the power settings applet?
