hung setup

Help! HelP!
I attempted to reinstall W2K pro because of missing files.
Setup stops during Installing hardware screen, flashes a
message(too fast to be read)then reboots. When I tried to
repair with the cd, it asked for a password but it would
not accept the password which I had originally used in my
initial installation. How can I abort or restart setup?
I tried to reinstall over this incomplete setup but I
wound up with dual boot in the same partition.

Thanks,

Have you considered a fresh install, booting from the CD
and wiping out everything (backup important data if you
still could)? My limited experience tells me that the
best course of action is reinstall. Of course, I do not
have too many applications to install, and I keep up-to-
date ghost images of all my OSes in order to minimise the
pain of reinstallation.

Wiping out my harddrive would be a last resort and a
monumental task to reinstall all my files and applications.
