HUGE delay when i right click any file or folder & select "propert

Please can someone shine any light on this particularly irritating bug.
When i right click on any file or folder (except "My Computer" or Hard
Drive(s) a seemingly endless delay ensues before the propertied dialogue box
appears, i'm talking well over a minute here! I've done just about every
clean up, defrag & "housekeeping" chore listed & nothing makes a difference.
It's really driving me mad.
