I have a peculiar issue. When I highlight a file name and right click on it
whether to access properties or just to copy or delete, there is at least a 1
to 2 minute delay before I am able to do anything else with that particular
file. This is true whether I attempt to do this through "Explorer", "My
Computer", or accessing the files through a program like Word.
Additionally, even if I just highlight the file and press the delete key, the
same delay occurs. However, I have no similar problems with folders,
program icons or drive icons. It appears only to affect the actual files
themselves. I have no problem opening a file in any program like Word
provided I am using that program to open the file. However, If I try to open
a file outside of a program like Word by accessing the file directly from “My
computer†or “Explorer†by left clicking on it, I have the same 1 to 2 minute
delay.
I have restored my system to the earliest setting, but to no avail. I have
defraged all my drives and I have ran scan disk with no errors. I run XP
home, service pack 2. My virus and antispyware detection is up to date. I
use Mcafee for virus, and Windows defender along with Adware for spyware
protection. I have disabled my virus protection to see if that was an issue,
however the same problem occurs. Any advice would be appreciated.
