Delayed Right Click Selection

Overall my system is well secured. I have a very positive computing
experience. My system is fast and sharp, as well as clean and tidy. However I
suffer from one frustrating problem. Whenever I select the right-click mouse
button (open, edit, open with, send to, scan with..., etc.) on a file with a
document, image or video there is nearly an five to eight second delay. Once
the right-click menu opens the functions work flawlessly. I have attempted
several remedies: reinstalled direct x9c, updated video drivers, toyed with
refresh rates and even disable the indexing service. None of my attempts
were successful. I am ever so curious as to why this delay occurs. I wanted
to blame the virus scan engine (perhaps it needs to load itself each time?)
but the same antvirus app seems normal on my laptop. I do not have any fancy
referenced drivers, software or hardware. My system is a basic normal
multimedia computer, save for the frustrating right-click menu delay. Does
anyone have any suggestions?

Registry Disclaimer:
If you make a mistake editing the registry, you could destroy Windows Explorer,
or even render your system unbootable. Backup the registry before deleting
keys.

You may want to clean out the offending shellex registry keys here:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Allfilesystemobjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\

ShellExView from http://www.nirsoft.net/ can automate this cleanup for you, but
is only recommended for advanced users.

If you're cleaning the registry manually, make sure you only delete the subkeys
(ie. don't delete the ContextMenuHandlers key itself).

If you're not sure what keys to delete, just post the contents of these keys,
and we'll help you.

Here are the contents of those keys on my system (YMMV):

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Offline Files
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Open With
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Open With EncryptionMenu
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\WinRAR
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\{a2a9545d-a0c2-42b4-9708-a0b2badd77c8}
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\EncryptionMenu
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Offline Files
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Sharing
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\WinRAR
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\AVG Shell Extension
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\WinRAR
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Send To
