HP4L printer prints garbarge with XP

I just upgraded from '98 to XP and now my HP4L printer prints pages of
garbarge. I downloaded the driver from HP for XP but this driver is
4L/4ML postscript. I have also tried the HP III driver. I believe the
garbage comes from the postscript mode. There is nothing wrong with
the printer and worked excellent with '98. Any suggestions? Thnx

Have you tried installing the Windows XP driver, uninstall the existing driver
first.
Use the Add Printer wizard, deselect "Automatically detect and install my plug
and play printer", select LPT1. Scroll down at the left to HP and at the right
to HP Laserjet 4L.

If deleting printer, delete driver, reinstall printer does not fix the
issue, change the parallel BIOS system on the computer to PS2 or BI-DI. If
the computer is a Dell, this is the problem.
