HP 4L Not Printing with XPpro

Hello:

I need some help.

My HP 4L does not seem to be communicating correctly with my PC. A
test print page printsout OK. The print queue says that the 4L is
ready. However, when attempting to print a text file. the printer just
sits there w/o printing text file, etc.

I am not sure that the 4L is plug n play at the time that I got my
Dell PC (JAN 2005). I have been using my HP7350 until recently
replacing the toner cartridge in the HP 4L. The HP4L was working fine
prior to XPpro other than an empty toner cartridge.

Does the fact that the print queue shows the 4L in "Ready" status
really mean that the hardware driver is installed ?

How can I confirm that I do in fact have the proper printer driver
installed?

Device Manager shows data related to my HP7350, but I have not seen
anything relating to a HP 4L printer.
Where should the 4L be listed within Device Manager? or elsewhere ?

Is the correct/latest driver the lj632en.exe file for the HP 4L? I
have downloaded that file from the HP.com website to my computer which
is a standalone non-networked/shared unit.

Thanks.

If the printer was working with the same hardware, and only the Ops system
was changed.
Uninstall the old drivers, and possibly the new ones.
Check the BIOS for the correct port mode. Older printers using the parallel
port usually will work with the "standard parallel" port setting when they
don't work with the default ECP (for XP). The port mode may have differen
designations in BIOS. SPP, ECP and EPP are the most common, with SPP
sometimes referred to as bidirectional.
Then try installing the correct drivers for XP.

You don't need any special drivers for an HP4L - the standard XP ones
work just fine.
