HP LaserJet 4L

HP LaserJet 4L on new notebook with Windows XP Pro prints
a page with an X in the upper left corner, then it prints
the actual page, and then it prints another with an X.

How do I fix this?

I deleted the printer and re-added it, but that did not
help. Same printer plugged into older Windows 98 laptop
works fine.

Try changing the port setting in the computer's BIOS to SPP or
bi-directional printer port or similar.

Let us know.
