I open my computer and i have a D drive, but when i want to play a CD or burn
a CD it wont work. I think that I need to reinstall the software for this
piece of hardware, but when I put in the disc it will not read it. Do i need
to uninstall the drive, and if I do, how do i reinstall if the drive will not
read the disc?

You don't give us enough information to really help you.

What computer. What drive name and model. What software are you using.

What do you see in Device Manager?

You indicated in the header to this message re: HP. What is this is this a
HP cd drive?
