I open my computer and i have a D drive, but when i want to play a CD or burn
a CD it wont work. I think that I need to reinstall the software for this
piece of hardware, but when I put in the disc it will not read it. Do i need
to uninstall the drive, and if I do, how do i reinstall if the drive will not
read the disc?

First, how old is the 9100 series CD Writer you're talking about and
what's the exact model number?

CD-ROM drives rarely last more than a few years and are cheap and easy
to replace. Before that though, have you tried using a cleaning CD in
the drive? It may just be dirty.

Cost of brand new Dual Layer DVD Burner with LightScribe - about $37

If you can turn a screwdriver and have at least a little mechanical
ability, you can replace the unit in less than 30 minutes. And, while
you're in there, blow out all the accumulated dust.

Lastly, HP drivers are most likely not even being used. WinXP has
built-in drivers for 99% of all CD/DVD drives. If you want to check
that, just go to the HP website and see if you can download the drivers.

Good Luck,
HJS
