hey
i changed my CD drive to a CD-RW a year ago because i wanted to burn
things..it was working fine for about a year now when i insert any type of
disc my computer wont run any of the discs.. when i insert a disc.. a cd icon
will appear near the mouse cursor and flash a couple of times then stop..
when i go to my computer to the D drive nothing is there... it's like drive
reads it or senses something but it wont run.. I am using windows XP Pro and
my CD-rom drive is a 'LITEON CD-RW SOHR'
someone please help!!! does it have anything to do with CMOS settings,
driver updates.. my conclusion is, that the there is something wrong inside
the D drive..

Help!!

HI,
Well You can try to reseat the data cables of your cd rom
Before you do that go with basic troubleshooting steps,Like
Tried to boot the computer with the operating system cd.
And if it comes up with the setup screen,good
There is no problem with the cdrom.
In the above scenarion You can modigy the registry to fix this problem
Try deleting the upper and lower filtery keys in the reistry editor window
Start->Run->Regedit->Ok
Registry editor will open
Locate the Upper Filters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the Lower Filters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
After You delete the above mentioned keys
you have to reinstall the cd burning softwares in the computer.

Mohammed

Try cleaning the optical read/write heads with a Lens Cleaner CD. Sometimes
the behavior you mention can be traced to clogged heads and not some
complicated software/programming/other hardware issue!

I'm no expert but HTH. :)
