WinXP native writing to CD-RW in DVD writer?

I have a LG DVD writer, which can also write CD-R/W. It writes either
type of disc OK using Nero.

I have a recording tab for this drive, and I can select to enable
recording on this drive.

I can "send" files to this drive, and it shows me the files waiting to
be written. I put a CD-RW in the drive, and see the files already on
the disc.

If I click on "Write these files to disc" I get an error that there is
no disc in the drive.
If I select "Erase CD-RW" it erases the disc OK.
If I remove, and re-insert the CD-RW, and try "Write files to disc",
it still says "no disc in drive"
Can I make WinXP recognise that this DVD writer has a CD-RW in it, and
it can write to it?

Thanks.

My WildAssedGuess!!!
WinXP doesn-t know about -RW disks, it writes as to CD-Rs, and as you
already have data on it (packet writing formatted, InCD, Drag'n'Drop
etc??)..??

Not a bad guess, but not correct. No prize.
I also have a CD writer in the same machine, and if I select Recording
for that drive (You can only select one drive at a time for native CD
writer), WinXP can write files to this exact, self same CD-RW disk OK.
The disk is not formatted for packet writing. I haven't loaded InCD,
or DirectCd or any other packet writer on this machine.
I just read a file from this CD-RW, update it, save it to the hard
drive, and then write it back to the CD-RW. After a number of saves, I
erase the disk and start again.
I used to use packet writing, but there are several flavours of it out
there, and of course, they are not compatible with each other, and I
want this CD readable in any machine, so packet writing is out.

Thanks for your guess anyway.
