HP V40 all in one

I need help!!! I upgraded from 98 to XP and I can't get my HP V40 to work-- I have downloaded the driver for XP but everytime I plug the printer into the USB port,, my whole computer locks up!!
 
The trouble started when you kept the printer connected during the upgrade.
Uninstall and reinstall completely:
