How to clear a carriage jam in my HPofficejet V40

I have a 4-in-one HP OfficeJet V40 which had been working
beautifully until tonight. I was printing and then I had
to replace the black cartridge. When I started to print
again after the new cartridge had been installed, that's
when I heard this scraping sound inside the printer.
Then I noticed, upon visual inspection, that the tape at
the back(something that looks like a very thin metal) was
jamming and after a while I noticed that it is somewhat
crumpled. Now when I try to run the printer the scraping
sound is becoming louder and I get this message on the
screen that says, "Clear carriagejam." How do I clear
this carriage jam? And who do I call to fix the problem?
I would appreciate any suggestion you may have. Thank
you.

If there is some physical damage inside the unit, then you must take it to
an authorised HP repairer. This isn't a Windows issue, obviously.

"Tape at the back..."

are you perhaps referring to a thing metal type cable.... if that is
damaged, it is something HP only can repair. And depending on your
estimate, it may not be economically viable.

I wanted to reply to this post because I had a similar message on my
machine
after a similar situation (I had replaced my "photo" cartridge with the
black)
My all in one is an HP 2175, about 5 years old & I would hate having to
replace it. My machine had no visible damage, so I went for broke &
pulled on the white staps that pull the cartriges. When I shut the lid
& pressed enter the cartridges moved back to center & I realized that I
hadn't properly closed the cartrige in. Just another thought for anyone
looking for an answer to this problem. Mine is now working fine again.
