HP ScanJet 4200C scanner

Recently I needed to purchase a new CPU. My previous ran
with WIndows 95. With this my HP ScanJet 4200C scanner
worked. Now my CPU runs with Windows XP. This causes my
scanner to not work. I talked with HP and was told I
needed to purchase "HP Precision Scan LT Software/Drivers
for the ScanJet 4200C Series", which I did. That does
not help. A technical said I need to purcase drivers
from Microsoft. Please help

Microsoft doesn't sell drivers. We aren't in the driver business, the vendor
is - in this case - HP.

This device is supported inbox (meaning HP supplied MS with a driver that
users can easily use). All you should have had to do was plug in the USB
cable and it would have PnP'd and installed the inbox solution.

Try this:
1. disconnect the device from the computer
2. reboot your computer and then make sure HP programs are running when
you start-up (check Task Manager)
2. uninstall any software that applied to the HP scanner (I don't know if
you were trying to install HP's software/driver)
3. reboot
4. once you've logged in, then plug in the scanner. You should get a message
the device is being installed, and then another saying the device was
successfully installed.

good luck!

I think you got the correct driver from HP. You should have downloaded the
driver for the Scanjet 4200C, dated 2001-10-18, Rev. 2.02. The important
thing you must do is disconnect the scanner, then install the software and
reboot, as Michael told you. It won't work if the scanner is connected when
you load the software. What you should do now is uninstall the HP software,
disconnect the scanner and reboot. Then reinstall the software, reboot and
then plug in the scanner cable.

I have the same scanner. If you have HP software installed, uninstall it
via Add/Remove Programs. Then installed the software which also includes
the drivers from their web site.

It is a 35 MB download. Download and install.

Step 1: Do you need to update?

Release date: 25-Feb-2002 Version: 2.03

This is the complete scanning software for the 4200c series of scanners.
NOTE: This download does not contain any third-party software. Warning: This
is an extremely large file download. Depending on your connection type and
speed of your modem, this download could take hours to complete. Choose the
file you want to download to your system. With your mouse, click on the
file. In the 'save as' dialogue, you will be prompted to select the folder
(subdirectory) where you want the file downloaded. Once the file is
downloaded, click on the file, the software will decompress and then install
automatically. ? During installation, you may see a message about "Digital
Signature Not Found". You must select "Continue" for the software to install
correctly. ? Connect the scanner only after you have finished installing the
Scanning Software.

Step 2: Does your system fulfill the following requirements?

Operating system(s):
Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows ME,
Microsoft Windows XP
