HP Printer

Hi,

I have a customer who is telling me that they made the mistake of plugging
in her new HP C4480 before running the installation disc.
The installation failed and so they contacted HP for advice. HP are telling
that she has to re-install windows XP now as she will never get it going
until she does. This sounds a load of bull to me, any advice as to how this
situation can be rectified?

Ian.

Hi
Sounds like a load of bull to me too,
Use "System Restore" to return the computer to the state before
the failed installation took place,
Then run the the installation again

Yep that is one thing I was going to try. . . . Customer has been saying
that they will bring it for months....
Guess I will start at Christmas 2008 to be sure!!!!

Thanks for your comments.

Umm, the System restore will likely be past the time of the problem and
you will need to flush the HP install manually. Good luck!

"HP install manually"

Can you please advise as to how to acheive this? Or a link to site that
might advise of the same?

Last time I had one of them like that(talking 3-4 years now), I had to
search the registry for every last entry relating to the HP and remove it.

a. Remove the HP software from Add/Remove Programs.

b. From the HP setup directory (on the CD or on the hard drive if drivers
were downloaded from the Internet) in the Utilities>CCC folder find the
uninstall.bat files. Use Uninstall_L3.bat. Do not use Level 4 on an HP
computer because it might take out necessary HP components for the system.

c. Then use msconfig to do a clean boot. On the Startup tab, disable
everything. On the Services tab, hide the MS services and disable everything
else. Reboot.

d. Run CCleaner (*only* the cleaner part, do not *touch* the registry tool!)
to get rid of all temporary files.

e. Download the latest HP full feature software or use the CD if you must.
MAKE SURE THE PRINTER IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER!

f. Try to reinstall the printer software. Sacrifice a small child first
(optional).

g. If this worked, put the Startup back the way it was with msconfig.

h. If this didn't work, throw the printer of the the window.

Well I get to see the laptop tommorow for the first time, so we will see
then....
The sacrifice of a small child and the window suggest I will keep in
reserve....
Thanks for comments...will let you know...

That sounds like a lot of hooey. use system restore and start over by
installing the printer drivers, then plug in the printer. HP's tech
support is really bad since they sent it out of the US.
