HP Photosmart 3310 Install Problems

Is anyone else having problems getting Photosmart 3310 installed .. or
have ideas to resolve.,

I'm trying to install on a Dell Dimension 8250 and everytime I run the
install it stalls at stage 3 of 4 ... When I reload, it installs
cleanly but some of the features on the printer accessed via the
software do not work like copy, fax, scan. Basic printing is ok.

The printer is communicating on the network via an access point router.
I don't seem to have 2 way communications. One way from the pc to the
printer seems to work.

I've tried reinstalling 3 times. HP Support just say to uninstall and
try again.

There must be something with the software. I've tried copying the CD
to the PC and running from there with no change. This install takes a
long time and runs very slowly even if I do the express install.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

First disconnect the printer from the PC. Then go to HP's website and find
an uninstall utility at the printer's support page(s).

Once you are sure you have completely uninstalled the printer, reboot.

Run the CD again and do not connect the printer until the software tells you
to do so. BTW exactly what is Stage 3... ?

Hi:
I went through the exact same thing when I installed software of 'Photosmart
3310,'
however I completed software-installation on two different computers.

My experience on this is keep trying until 'error' message coming to the
screen,
that solved the problem. When 'error message' after failed installation,
that 'error
message' went to the HP and they fixed or accomodated somehow.

Somewhere in the Internet, I read that either HP or MS, or even both
have NO file which needs for installaltion. Then, until error message coming
to
the screen, keep trying installation. Never quit a half way through.

I understand your frustration over the time, taking 'too long,' but in the
end, I got
spelendid results..., very fast printing, good-quality photos, and many,
many more.

Then, keep trying until 'error' message coming to the screen. Because, this
is ONLY way
I did for installation of Photosmart 3310.

If there is/are questions to ask about installation, please post us back
soon.

I don't actually get an error message on the install. What happens is
the install program stalls partway through (usually at stage 3 out of
4) requiring me to cancel. When I relaunch the install CD, it does not
prompt to uninstall ... it just goes straight into the install program
which installs cleanly ie. it does not stall in the usual spot. Once
installed and the system rebooted, everything looks ok in the install
but some of the functionality doesn't work.

HP says to uninstall, reboot and try again. This is the 3rd time I
have done this so there must be a problem with the install program. I
guess I'll try one more time to run the uninstall, delete the printer
in control panel and try again.

HP suggested copying the entire CD to my hard drive and running from
there. I've tried this and had the same results.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi:
I recall once I had the same problem, 'stall' at stage 3 out of 4.

However, 2 out 3 problems on installation was 'error message' I got and
those 'error messages' went directly to the hp. Prior to this, I did 'chat'
with
a HP representative. Then, they seemed well aware of the problem I had.

However, I have no idea whether this, their awareness helped my
installation.

This, same problem I had on Norton, then I, a kind used to this. But, it
was
such a headache I needed to go through. I'm a loyal 'Norton' customer, btw.

In my suggestion, your next try on installation does not work, then call a
tech.
1-800-752-0900 and ask them whether this is related with hardware problem.
Because, I had a very similar problem on other HP printer and it ended up
hardware, not software problem. However, this decision is all up to you.
Just my suggestion, because I have 4 printers that all were manufactured by
HP.
Three printers were OK, including Photosmart 3310, but one out of four was
hardware
problem. For this, a replacement will arrive anytime soon. But, this was
only accomplished
after lengthy talks with HP tech.

Despite the problem and headache I went through during installation, I'm
still a long-time HP
fun. Both my computers(4) and Printers(4) are all manufactured by HP. I've
never had any
problems with HP computers and one HP computer are very old with '98 on it.
Others are
all XP and doing VERY well.

I bet you are trying to install on a machine running XP Media Center
Edition?

Search this NG for posts of mine or for 3310 and you will find there
is plenty of problems with the 3310 install software for XP Media
Center Edition. HP support does not recognize / understand the
problem.

I finally managed to get the basic scanner and printer services
working, but after a couple of weeks my media center machine can no
longer connect to the printer, while my XP Pro machine on the same
wireless network connects just fine.

I have been told both the HP recognizes the problem and is working on
it, and that there are no outstanding issues regarding the 3310 and XP
Media Center Edition. I am not holding my breath for a fix.

Hi:
The 3310 Printer is connected with two XPs, one of HP computers running XP
Mediam Center Edition and has NO problem as stated, above. Rather, I had a
problem of installation on other computer which running XP Home Edition.

I read some of HP printer installation, but there seems NO relation with XP
Media Center Edition. At least, in my case.
