HP LaserJet 4P - 13 Paper Jam Error

I have the HP 4P and I am getting a "13 Paper Jam" Error message. The
rollers pick up the paper, but ir goes in about half way and stops. I have
these possible leads from another site, but I need to know where to begin.

1. Printer rear door open.
2. Stuck or broken flags or sensors.
3. Paper fragment under oblique rollers.
4. Transfer roller guide not seated.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Where is teh leading edge of the paper when it jammed? If it jam before it
reachs the Fuser, there is a sensor under the toner cartridge. You should be
able to see it after you take toner out. Use a can of compressed air to see if
you could clean it. Make sure that sensor arm is moving freely.

1). If the printer rear door is open, you will see the msg before the paper got
picked up.
2). See above.
3). Use a flash light and check under the oblique rollers but if the paper pass
them, kind of doubt it.
4). Just put down on both end. Avoid touching teh foam part with your fingers.

When it jams, the leading edge of the page is about 1-1/2 inches beyond the
foam roller. Asout to the edge of where the toner drum is. It picks up and
feeds to there consistently. I have cleaned everything I can see.

Also, It does not seem to pick up manual feed pages or envelopes when I
tested it this way.

I once experienced a problem with a 4P with defective gears in the toner
cartridge. Continuous paper jams. New cartridge fixed the problem. -
