My off site location cant seem to print via Terminal Services on there local
HP LaserJet 1012 Printer. XP users can print fine, just not the 2000 users.
When the exact same driver install on the Win XP <professional> users
computers, it installs on port USB <only way to print with thsi printer>.
But on the Win 2000 usrs, it install on DOT4 port. Which im assuming is
cusing the issue. Any thoughts?

Much Thanks

Well, if I switch it to port USB00x, it will not print atall. This is
actually effecting win2k as well as winXP users. But the odd thing is that
when I install the exct same printer driver on my XP Pro. SP2 laptop with a
1012 connected via USB, it actaully install it on the USB port. Then I am
able to RD onto my LAN via a dial-up connection and print just fine to the
USB attached 1012 laser printer. I walked my IT tech. person thru the exact
same steps <while redoing it on my laptop> on a winxp Pro. box and it still
installed it on the dot4 port. So why would it work on my laptop but not for
this other sites desktops??? HP's reply what to the effect that we have low
end printers <nice reply> and it cant be done. Oh really, then how can I
do it on my laptop?

Any further thoughts?

Much Thanks!!

I think you are correct with the HP DOT4 port type in Win2k. Is there
anyway to trick it onto a USB00X port type and see if that makes the printer
available.

There is not MS support for DOT4 devices in Win2k, HP supplies the drivers
for Win2k. XP does support the DOT4 communication layer with in box drivers
but I know there are contentions when the HP version are installed on the
same machine as the MS drivers.

This is a host based printer so the device does very little in processing
the data. Processing is performed by the driver software and submitted to
the device.

Unsure of the differences between the desktop XP systems and your laptop.

You can share the printers from the desktop machines and connect to those
devices from the TS sessions. You can make the connections or you can
create local devices and create Local Ports that map to the
\\TSclient\printshare.
