of course they are part of vista, the only problem is they still don't work
as they should. I have a PSC 1215 and it has never worked correctly since the
early vista beta tests and, quite frankly, it doesn't work now. What HP would
rather you do is buy a new printer.

Fortunately, i run windows xp on a virtual machine so i can, at least,
continue using my current printer. I contacted HP four months ago and was
'assured' that a new fully featured driver set was being released, this has
happened, nor is it likely to either. While it is possible to get the printer
to print, there is a problem with the printer head alignment which cannot be
rectified without a fully featured driver set.

As for HP Director, personally, that is a complete and utter waste of space.
in my experience, even on windows XP you had to install it three or four
times before anything worked correctly. I haven't even bothered installing it.

Actually it is not a Vista problem, but rather an IE7 problem. Even Win XP has the problem when IE7
is installed.
HP has just dropped the ball.
The work around until HP fixes it is:

Double click on the HP Director Icon.
When the hour glass goes away.
press "Alt + spacebar" once.
Then click on the Minimize option twice.
Then you will have the HP director button in the task bar.
Now click on that button and HP Director works.

A dumb solution, but it works.

Richard, I can't say that i've experienced this problem with IE 7 and XP.
After a few attempts at installing HP director has installed okay on XP (both
on a VM and stand alone machine).

Your workaround sounds interesting; i'll have to try it as soon as my new
desktop arrives. The last one, sadly, blew everything due to a sudden power
surge. At least the new one will be protected by an uniterruptable power
supply unit.
