Microsoft Office 2007 SP1 Imaging crashes (MSPOCRDC.EXE) with HP PSC1210 on Vista / Vista SP1

Scott

I started with Vista Home Basic 32 bit & I also have a copy of Vista
Home Premium 64 bit on my Presario F750US laptop. When I go to scan
from my HP PSC 1210 using the Vista built in driver (the only one
available), the MSPOCRDC.EXE application crashes not giving me very
much information at all. No word from Microsoft or HP on the problem
though I reported the problem to both.

Is anyone else having this problem or found a solution?

Below is more information.

Product HP PSC 1210 All-in-One

What is your operating system?: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

Problem Description: I can no longer scan with Microsoft Document
Imaging & HP PSC 1210. I can still scan with a graphics program like
the Gimp, but that doesn't help me for multiple page documents. The PC
keeps crashing when office 2007 Microsoft Document Imaging or
Microsoft Document Scanning tries to use the scanning function of the
PSC 1210. Here is the crash report: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

Please provide previous troubleshooting steps, or information that
can help HP assist you.: I did repair office 2007, and recently
upgraded to Vista SP1 to see if that would help the problem, but it
did not.
Has anything changed since the unit functioned properly (installation
of SW, settings, cabling, etc.): It has really not worked well since
I switched to Windows Vista and I cannot afford to get a new printer/
scanner at the moment.

If you turn off OCR in the advanced functions of Microsoft Document
Imaging, then it does not crash. And I found a related KB:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943087

basically Microsoft is saying "Use another program, ours is broken".
Gee thanks Microsoft. Document Imaging is the only software I have
that will do multi-page TIFF scanning.

Hello Scott,

Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.

Scott, I see from your email that you are experiencing an issue while
scanning from Microsoft Document Imaging.

I understand your concern. I will provide you with all the
information regarding the issue.

Scott, this is to inform you that, Windows Vista is the latest
operating system and the drivers for it are still under development
stage. The Software team at HP is working on it and since this is an
All in one unit, it requires drivers for each function that this unit
is capable of performing (print, scan, copy).

Currently, there isn't any software/drivers compatible with windows
vista which is released by HP

The short-term driver solution is included in your Windows Vista
Operating system and is already on your computer. There is no need to
download anything at this time. This driver makes it possible to use
the basic functions for the printer and can be used until the full-
feature driver is available.

Unfortunately, we at Technical support do not have an estimated date
from the software team. I apologize for any inconvenience that this
may have caused. But I can assure you that it should be available
anytime in the near future.
