HP Business Inkjet 1000 - any way to force it to print with outdatedcartridges?

Hi,
I've been using HP's Business Inkjet 1000 printer for more than two
years. As for my needs, it's been working pretty nice. And those needs
mostly focus on B&W prints, which are what this printer does best, by
the way. As time went by, I finally ran out of black ink - obviously the
right way to handle it was to buy a new one. And so I did. The printer
went on working as nice as it did before. The problem is, it has
recently found out that the best before date for colour inks has passed
- and it refused to print at all: no matter if I choose to use just
black ink, or not - all I get is a nasty HP toolkit notification window
stating that I can't print until I replace the outdated cartridges
(plus, appropriate LEDs keep on shining). In fact, I hardly want to do
it. After over two years of using this printer, I've found out I don't
really need colours on most of my prints (yeah, yeah, I shouldn't have
bought a colour printer - sure, but it was a gift). Is there any way I
can force the printer to work without having the most up-to-date colour
ink cartridges? I believe this isn't just Windows (btw, I'm using XP
Home if that's of any importance) drivers that forbid me to print - when
I launched Ubuntu Live CD, the printer didn't work either.

If you have any ideas, I'll be deeply grateful for sharing them :)
Thanks in advance.
