HP 7410 vs Canon MP 830

I have decided to get a full multi purpose printer (copy, fax, photo and
scan) and have narrowed it down to the HP 7410 and the MP 830. I am decently
versed about the differences in features between the two.

The Hp does have some nice advantages : legal sized scanner and network
compataibility to name a few. But its draw back to me is that it requires
the swapping of cartridges for printing quality photos.

Does anyone have the HP 7410 and print pictures using the normal cartriges?
Any real compalints about it?

The other factor is the discrenpency on ratings IE users versus reviewers
from various puplications. Both machines recieve close to the same ratings
from the pros but the users tend to slam the Hp 7410.

SOOooooo any thoughts which of the two is the better product printing normal
black and white text and color pictures? Cost is not an issue for mee ...
print quality and useability are the concerns.

It prints very respectable pictures with the color and black cartridge
installed. I used one extensively and rarely ever put in the photo
cartridge to print photo's. I currently have a 2610, which is basically
the same printing mechanism with less features. If you would like to
email me a jpg photo and your snail mail address (assuming you are in
the US) I will print your photo in both 3 ink and 6 ink modes and you
can see for yourself. Side by side the 6 ink looks better, but if you
showed the 3 ink version by itself to most folks they would say it looks
great. Mail me at mailto:[email protected].

Early versions of the driver could be problematic to install, especially
if the user connected the printer before installing the drivers.
Following the instructions on the setup sheet works.... I really liked
the Officejet 7410.

HP's black text is unmatched and the photo's are pretty good even with
only the color cartridge.

I want to thank you for your thoughtful reply to my questions about the HP
7410. I had a gut feeling that the normal ink supply would work for most
photo printing needs except for maybe those one wants special attention to.

Thanks for your offer to send me prints of a photo with and without using
the photo cartridges. Your word seems to be evidence enough.

I had suffered driver problems related to install procedures with HP
products before. I am a little amazed they still exist. But your comment
seems to back up those by others who claim the low ratings by users is due
more to their not reading and following manuals than in any real weakness in
the product.

Anyway thanks again for your remarks.

For what it's worth I and my people probably install about 30 HP printers every
month (other manufacturers also).
We almost never have difficulty installing HP drivers, they are pretty solid.
This includes Laser, Deskjet and Professional inkjets.
I cannot say the same for all manufacturers.
