HP OfficeJet 7410 scan error

We have a Windows SBS 2003 in which we added a HP officejet 7410 as a
network device recently. Printing works fine, however, we cannot scan.

When we try to run hp director, we receive an error that says"
An error occurred communicating with the scanning device. Please ensure
that the scanning device is connected properly and try again.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank You.

I had similar problems with HP Director and Win XP. Seems there can be a
conflict between windows built in scanning capability and the HP software
(which as a very dated appearance and functionality). A possible solution is
to see if View Scan better meets your needs. It is downloadable as a trial
version. If you are using an ethernet interface for scanning purposes, it
may be that your network configuration is part of the problem.

I tried vuescan but no look. I can scan from the server and the
desktops if I go to
IP address of the officejet, via internet explorer, and use the HP scan
utility that exists there. However, I cannot scan via Director still.

I'm not sure that you will be able to get HPs Director to work with an IP
addressed unit.
The last time I fooled with this using a now discontinued HP TCPIP network
printer with added Fax/Scan accessories, It did not use Director to scan.
As I seem to remember, it emailed the scan or fax to me via a builtin SMTP
server (Had all kinds of fun getting the IP to allow the necessary ports.)
(DSL behind a modem/router combo furnished by the phone company)
Can HP provide any useful information?
