Cant Print to HP Using XP Limited Account

Hi,

This is a posting to help those who will be facing this same problem in
the future :)

I have added an HP OfficeJet 7410 printer to the network (this printer
rocks BTW!), but after installing the software on the kids machines
using the Admin rights login, found that it would not print from their
XP Home Limited Account.

The printer was visible, said it was online, but just would not Print!!
ARGH!

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I found the answer on the 'net in
relation to something else. The answer was to change from a DNS name to
an IP Address in the Port Settings.

So, as an Admin account, Go To Control Panel.

Printers and Fax's
Right-Click - Properties on your Printer.
Ports Tab
Find the port your printer is using
Click on Configure Port
Change "Printer Name or IP Address" to the IP Address of the Printer.

Click OK.
Click Close

Login to the Limited Account and try again :)

Thats it! Enjoy!

Hope that helps people to find the solution quickly.

The next stuff is Google Fodder :)

Cheers,

This problem tends to occur on XP Home if a Norton/Symantec product is
installed on the PC. There's another option and that's to print direct to
printer.

Or, of course, use a different antivirus product.

Hi,

The computers are using McAfee 8.0i, and were already set to print
direct (not spool). Changing to the IP was the crticial change on this
occassion.
