HP Universal print driver:not supported hp device error

L

Lexus

Windows 2003 server Sp2 ,HPUPD ver:4.5 and 4.7
All the hp printers that are HPUPD compatible give error : "the selected
printer(\\servername\printer name) is not a uspported hp device " when
installed on standard tcpip port BUT the same printers work OK(no error msg
like the above)when installed on LPR port regardless of HPUPD version.
My questions are :
-Why LPR port works OK when HP instructs to use standard tcpip port :
-What's the biggest the difference between LPR and TCPIP port ?Will the use
of LPR instead of tcpip cause any trouble in the future?
HP still unable to come up with a solid solution, try this, try that are not
helping at all ...No traditional print driver can be found on hp web site on
the top of that .
Please help me

Yes it is very odd that HP pops UI stating their own printers are not
compatible devices.

I don't have a solution other than pester HP to provide a real driver other
than one that is designed for ALL printers but still does not work.
