I am having a problem.

My existing set up was working well. There have been no program
or computer changes of which I am aware. PIV, 256K, almost empty
120 Gig HD, XP Pro, networked to my wife's computer at home.
Printer is based on this computer, shared by others through a
Netgear router.

Hp 5L prints test page and self test just fine.
Full page and multipage IE pages print fine.
Email prints fine.
WordPerfect pages work fine.

All work is being done with letter size paper. I think I have
checked all printer settings and Word settings for the printer.

When I tell MS Word / WordPad stuff to print, the usual green
lights flash back and forth longer than I would consider normal,
then give me a blinking yellow light. When I push the bottom
button, it begins to print, but when they get to about 3/4 page,
the printer gives me vertical lines to the end of the page and
prints the rest of the document on a second page. The printer had
been working fine on MS Word. Our grandson came over to do a
school paper that contained some jpg files - the document gave us
the print troubles. My wife typed out several simple single paged
things for school - crazy print job. She printed it out at 12
point - it did OK, raise the font size to 17 - no go. The problem
holds true on both hers and my computers.

I have now also tried changing the printer driver settings
between RAW and EMF. No change.

It acts as if it uses up the memory trying to print, but can't. I
have been through HP's troubleshooter and MS troubleshooter. I
have deleted and reinstalled the printer. I have forced it to use
the newest HP driver rather than the XP driver. Any new ideas?

Uninstall and reinstall the printers according to the instructions in
this page:

http://www.coribright.com/Windows/Article One.htm

If the problem does not disappear, try using the XP driver.

You might want to consul the print experts at this group:
microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax

Good luck
