how to set up having emails acknolwedged with 'read' reply

When sending emails I want to know they have been received / read by
recipient. It was set up for me a long time ago but I don't know how to set
this up.

Are you sending the emails from an Access database (the subject of
this newsgroup)? If not, please repost your question in a newsgroup
for your email program (Outlook? Outlook Express? something else?)
