How to search/replace symbol characters

Hi,
how can I search for characters from symbol fonts (and ultimately relace
them)?

For example, I have an alpha in my document, which is simply an "a" from the
symbol font (and not, e.g., the corresponding unicode character from Times
New Roman). How can I find this? Searching for "a" in symbol font does not
seem to work, nor does unicode search.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Michael

P.S. I'm using Word 2000, but I trust the situation is similar in other
versions as well...

Copy the symbol from the body of the document and paste it into the Find What
area.

Thanks for the heads up Michael. As is evident, I'm still learning all the
time. Suzanne is nothing short of a genius!

Quite a bit short, really. But if you hang around here long enough you're
bound to absorb a few things.
