Is there a way to scan text using Vista Home premium edition into word so you
can edit the document?

JoAnn Paules,
Thanks. tried to load the software. The scanner is about 4 years old (HP
4215) software will not load onto vista. Went to the HP web site for new
software. HP said my vista has the current software needed but vista home
premium will only scan items as JPEGs.

You need to use the OCR software that came with your scanner.

Recent versions of Office come with the Microsoft Office Imaging function,
though it is not installed by default. This is a rudimentary OCR tool that
will convert textual images to editable text.
