How to rid me of Norton

S

Thanks to all who responded yesterday about Norton. I did a search this
morning AFTER I un-installed & still had 13 folders. Hit delete & there is 4
that says I can't delete? I did go to add\remove & take everything
Symantec\Norton out of there but now, do I really have to go to the
registry. HORRORS!!!!

Somebody posted this..............................................
Are you SURE you removed all remnants of Norton? Did you use the
super-sekret Norton removal tool? Did you scan your registry for "Norton"
and "Symantec?"
..........................................................................................................................................................................

& I am just not sure what to do before I put on another, better program.
Good lesson learned here from this "die-hard" Norton user. Never again !!!!

Thanks

Get the Symantec Norton removal tool.
Try this link

Did you download and run the file named SymNRT.exe, this is the tool that
will remove most of the registry entries and files on your hard disk.
Unfortunately the more recent versions of this file do not remove all the
registry entries like the earlier versions did so their will still be a few
reg entries you most likely not be able to find and delete.

As for any remaining directories and files you may be required to reboot
before you can delete these.

Norton software pulled that crap on me. I keep a very old DOS utility
program that I still use from time to time for such things. Botted into DOS
only with a floppy, ran my good ol' popdos, deleted all the Norton files
and folders I could find without a problem. Re-started back into windows,
ran regedit and ruthlessly eradicated every instance of "Norton" and
"Symantec" I could find from the registry. Drastic but Norton pissed me
off. Got rid of most if it but it still left a little something of itself
behind. It wasn't until I posted a question here that I was finally able to
get rid of that last bit.

Dear friends:

I did it, and in my case, SymNRT gave me a message telling that "This
version has expired, please download the newest one" (or similar), and
refused to work. And it was just downloaded from their site!!!!!!!

Typical of Symantec, most likely the reason is that each version has some
flaws, for instance their earlier version did in fact remove every last
shred of the product, consequently you could re-install and get another 360
days worth of updates even if you had already used the product for 9 months,
this oversight has since been fixed and the associated registry keys are no
longer removed.

That was me. Removing Norton is like removing a tattoo: It's hard to get it
all and it hurts like hell. For a long time.

Get a good, SAFE registry cleaner and it should remove the orphaned registry links.
Some reg cleaners will over-clean and remove too many important empty registry entries.
I've used quite a few and stick to Registry First Aid as it rates the potential troubled entries on a green/amber/red
safe-to-remove scale. YMMV.

The way to get rid of Norton is to use the removal tool referenced
above, not to use a registry cleaner. *All* registry cleaners are
potentially dangerous.
