FireWall/windows vs. Symantec

Hi, Now this is an odd one,for both Symantec and Netzero (ISP at the time)
are working weird. I uninstalled Norton/Symantec-the correct way,via the
uninstall tool on Symantec and also Add/Remove programs. After that did not
help, the proper Registry keys were removed and all Norton/Symantac
Comp./Files/Folders were deleted and than a restart ran. All checks now
indicate NO Norton,Etc. products are present. But my Firewall indicates that
2 or more firewalls are running! I turned off Windows and now it says that
only one firewall wall is running-Yup, The Norton Internet Security 2006
system is alive and Well! Installing (yuck) and going through the whole thing
again does not help, nor 3 x's uninstalling from the (Norton) site help.
Nothing appears in the Add/Remove programs. Can anyone help on this one?
Using XP sp2 Med. Ed. 2005. Thanks!!

There is a Norton product removal tool available from Symantac which I have
used in the past. That does beg the question however why they would have to
create such a tool unless their products were failing to uninstall. That's
Norton for you.:)

Norton is the barnacle of the software world.

It requires special tools (available from Symantec), patience, and six
fingers on your left hand.

What you will need to check for is in windows services "start/run
services.msc" check for norton or symantec services running. If found right
click them ... press the stop button and then swich from automatic start to
disabled. Then run the norton removal tool again .. it should remove the
service.

hope this helps

thanks for the assist, I did in fact try that before trying trying your
idea. The only change is that Symatec now ignores more my technical requests
and I trust they are waiting for me to leave. I did sugest that Noton 2008
might contain the next new fix to this rather vexing problem. I think I'll
stick with AVG from now on. Good Evening and stay warm for thosse up North!
