how to retrieve desktop

My desktop have all the short cuts icon etc and we play some games.Out of the
blue, when we rteboot, we did not get the usual desktop. Instead we get a
message appears saying "Personalised Setting" and it was setting the desk top
with some usual icons likenms outlook,norton,quicktime and recycle bin.
I did not get my usual desktop with all my icons. Runing spybot search and
destroy, it found nothing. Our norton also does not detect anything.

Now what can I do to get my usual destop abck? Thanks for your help

Might be easier if you can tell us the last time you had the desktop and
what happened since then.

The easiest method is System Restore (documented in Help
files.) This is available only if it was configured ON before
the change occurred.

SR does not help as it says it cannot restore.We did it on a few dates which
it says it vanot restore,

We downloaded some games sand played for a few days before this happen.
