how to replace w2k generic USB driver with real USB driver

R

robm

i erroneously connected USB device before installing drivers... w2k found a
?compatible? generic driver that it installed. i then installed the USB
device specific driver and deleted the USB devices installed by w2k from
the "Device Manager->USB".

when i re-connect USB device the old generic driver is loaded and apperars
again in "Device Manager"

how to fix so that w2k loads/assoc the device specific drivers with the USB
device ?

TIA

What kind of device is it? Do you have the drivers on CD or could you
download thenm? If so - click on the driver tab of the device, choose update
and point it to the proper driver.

Hopefully this will sort out your problem!

device is *Lexar Multi-Card reader (USB 2.0)*
w2k recognizes as generic USB mass storage device, Lexar claims w2k drivers
are incompatible so i downloded the Lexar drivers from their web site and
installed as directed.

it also directs that when you connect USB device then you are asked which
driver to load for the device which never happens any more

tried the (driver -> update driver -> specify location), problems here
though as is looking for INF file which is not in the drive downloads from
Lexar (just a setup file and some cabs etc)

btw the driver installs 4 separate removable drives for the single device
??? is this correct ?
i was expecting only *1* removable drive as the device warns about inserting
multiple cards
