How to prevent opening a new Explorer Windows when mapping a drive

Hi,
When mapping a network drive (Tools -> Map network drive), a new Windows
Explorer window opens up with the files and directories on that drive when
mapping has suceeded. This is annoying and useless since the mapped drive
appears anyway in Windows Explorer (and can be expanded from there). This
did not happen with Win98 but was introduced with WinMe and carried over to
WinXP. How do we avoid that ?

Paul,

In Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View. In the Advanced
settings under the heading 'Files & Folders', do you have 'Launch folder
windows in a separate process' checked? If so, uncheck.

Download TweakUI:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Under 'My Computer' -> 'AutoPlay' -> 'Types'
Uncheck the second checkbox here.

Dear Uwe Sieber
I downloaded TweakUI and installed it. Howver, I see nothing uder "My
computer". On START -> Programmes, I can see a folder "PowerToys for Widows
XP" and then a shortcut "Tweak-UI", but if I click on it, nothing happens (I
got the flash light looking for cher the program might be...).

Any hint as to how I need to proceed ?
