How to keep the mouse from waking up XP-Home,

I

Icebiker

Hi,

I've got an Asus P4B with XP-Home and a Logitech Optical Mouse.

Currently the mouse will wake up Windows out of standby if it is moved. I
would like to disable this, since the mouse is so sensitive, just waking
past the computer wakes it up.

On my XP-Pro box, there's a Power Management tab in the mouse control panel
that lets me control whether the mouse wakes up the computer or not. XP-Home
doesn't seem to have this.

Is there some way to control whether the mouse (or keyboard) can wake up the
computer or not in XP-Home? Maybe a registry hack of some sort?

thanks - icebiker

You'll need to get into your PC's BIOS.

Look to the user manual as to how to manage this task.

once in BIOS find the settings for WAKE UP events or words of similar nature.

make sure that WAKE-UP ON LAN, MOUSE and / or any other activity that is not required is set to DISABLE.

I've experiemented with the BIOS settings (power up on PS/2 mouse, power
up on PS/2 keyboard, power up on PCI device) with no luck.

XP seems to ignore those events. I can't keep it from waking up for the
mouse. For that matter, I can't get my PCI modem to wake the computer
(which I'm currently blaming the modem for, but maybe it's part of the
same problem).

So, it seems that XP somehow ignores these events, or perhaps redefines
them on the fly.

Furthermore, my one copy of XP-PRO lets me change the mouse behaviour
through the control panel, without messing around with the BIOS. So, it
really seems like there must be something on the Windows side.

It surely is not XP, since it works well - enabled or disabled on my
computer.
Probably has something to do with your motherboard, or BIOS settings.
