waking up computer from standby

Are there keyboard combinations that can be used from a standard 104-key
keyboard (without special power keys) to make a computer power down, go to
sleep, and wake up? I've searched online, can't find anything like that.

If the computer has gone into a coma, i.e. won't wake up from standby, are
there any tricks that can be tried to get the computer out of the coma?

On laptops there might be a Fn+Esc combo that can be configured to standby,
hibernate, or whatever. My Dell has this, and others do, too. Some enhanced
regular keyboards have sleep buttons that are configured the same way. I
doubt there is any key that will wake up the machine, but I could be wrong.

A few years ago there was a move to make PCs power up and down like
Macs...from the keyboard. I played with it, it kinda worked, but now that
feature is gone.

Hold the power button for five seconds. Or, pull AC power completely.
Standby is only a partial power-down, so killing power completely will force
a reset.

Look in the motherboard BIOS setup under Power Management for waking
the computer using the keyboard or mouse.
