wake up options?

I have power settings configured for PC to go in 'stand by' when I press the
'sleep' button on my keyboard.
This seems to work OK, but how can I make the PC waking up EXCLUSIVELY by
pressing 'space bar'?
In the BIOS I have only enabled 'space bar' for 'wake up', but when I (or
the cat) move the mouse the PC also wakes up!

Go to Mouse Properties in Device Manager and then Power Management tab
UNcheck the box for "Allow this device to................standby."

This is not configurable using XP as when your computer goes into standby
mode the computer then depends on the BIOS for it's signal to wake to be
referred to it. If you can configure the keyboard to only recognise the
spacebar by using the BIOS then that is the BIOS that allows you to do that.
If you cannot disable the mouse from sending a signal by using the BIOS then
the signal to wake WILL be sent by the BIOS to wake the computer.

I appear to have got that one wrong. I was forgetting the extended BIOS
that is configured by the OS. You can test whether your mouse SHOULD be
able to wake your system from standby by typing the following at the Command
Prompt:

powercfg /DEVICEQUERY wake_from_any

....if your mouse is listed in the output then it will wake your computer and
you should follow the instructions given in 'Bob I's advice.

I didn't find a Power Management tab there (MS PS/2 compatible mouse
driver).
In fact this is a Logitech mouse, but I don't know if it's worthwile
installing all the Logitech stuff...

If the BIOS won't disable the PS/2 you could switch to USB mouse, and
"ignore" it.

And you say you have a PS2 mouse? And it brings the system out of standby
and it is NOT listed in the command:

powercfg /DEVICEQUERY wake_from_any

....I admit, I am slightly stumped. If you install a USB mouse it would
appear as a "HID-compliant mouse" and then you could clear the check-box
named "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby." under it's
Power Management tab.
